The journey concludes at the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, creating the perfect finale to an adventure filled with remarkable landscapes and wildlife encounters.
Depart early in the morning and journey towards the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of the Great Rift Valley and the picturesque Kenyan countryside before arriving at the reserve. The Maasai Mara remains one of the few places on Earth where wildlife continues to thrive in vast numbers across an unspoiled natural landscape, offering an authentic safari experience unlike any other.
As the northern extension of the greater Serengeti Ecosystem, the Mara is famous for its exceptional biodiversity and abundant wildlife. Between July and October, the reserve hosts the dramatic Great Migration, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the plains in search of fresh grazing, closely followed by lions, cheetahs, leopards, and other predators. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy excellent sightings of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and a rich variety of birdlife.
Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in time for lunch and some relaxation before heading out for an exciting afternoon game drive. Explore the vast savannahs as your guide searches for the region’s incredible wildlife, while the golden afternoon light creates perfect conditions for photography. As the sun sets over the plains, return to camp for dinner and an overnight stay surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African wilderness.
Enjoy two unforgettable days exploring the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve with a flexible schedule and unlimited game-driving opportunities. After breakfast each morning, set out with packed lunches for full-day safaris across the reserve’s vast grasslands, riverine forests, and rolling savannahs. This flexibility allows your guide to follow wildlife movements and maximize your chances of extraordinary sightings throughout the day.
The Maasai Mara is renowned for its impressive population of black-maned lions and an abundance of resident wildlife. It is one of the few places in Africa where the legendary Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros—can often be spotted during a single day of game viewing. The reserve is also famous for its cheetahs, many of which have become accustomed to safari vehicles. Visitors are sometimes rewarded with remarkable sightings of these elegant predators resting in the shade of vehicles or using elevated vantage points to scan the plains for prey.
Beyond the large mammals, the Mara offers exceptional birdwatching opportunities. Nearly 500 bird species have been recorded here, including numerous eagles, hawks, falcons, vultures, storks, and bustards. Bird enthusiasts may also encounter the magnificent Kori bustard, the heaviest flying bird in the world, along with colorful sunbirds and many other species that thrive within this diverse ecosystem.
Enjoy picnic lunches in the heart of the wilderness while surrounded by breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife. As each day unfolds, witness the ever-changing drama of the African bush before returning to your lodge or tented camp in the evening to relax, share stories of the day’s sightings, and enjoy another memorable night in the Maasai Mara.
Begin the day with an early morning game drive through the magnificent Maasai Mara National Reserve as you make your way out of the reserve. The early hours offer some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities, with predators still active and the plains coming to life in the soft morning light. Keep your camera ready for final sightings of lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, and other wildlife that call the Mara home.
After leaving the reserve, continue your journey south toward the Kenya–Tanzania border. Upon completion of immigration and customs formalities, meet your Tanzanian safari team and proceed toward the legendary Serengeti National Park. While this is a longer travel day, the changing landscapes and wildlife encounters along the route make the journey an exciting part of the adventure.
As you enter the Serengeti ecosystem, the transfer transforms into a game drive, with opportunities to spot zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, elephants, and predators roaming the endless plains. Wildlife sightings during both the exit from the Maasai Mara and the entry into the Serengeti can be surprisingly rewarding, often providing memorable encounters along the way.
For travelers seeking to maximize their safari time, we highly recommend flying between the two parks whenever possible. A scenic bush flight significantly reduces travel time and allows for additional game drives and more time enjoying the extraordinary wildlife experiences that make both destinations world-famous.
Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in the Serengeti in the late afternoon or evening, where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the exciting days of exploration ahead.
Spend two unforgettable days exploring the legendary Serengeti National Park with a flexible schedule and unlimited mileage, allowing you to make the most of one of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations. As you crest the hills and gaze across the seemingly endless plains, it becomes clear why Serengeti translates to “endless plains” in Kiswahili. Covering approximately 18,000 square kilometers, this vast ecosystem supports one of the largest concentrations of wildlife on Earth.
Home to more than two million large animals, the Serengeti hosts immense populations of wildebeest, plains zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles that move across the landscape in search of fresh grazing. Following these great herds are powerful predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and spotted hyenas, creating some of the most dramatic wildlife encounters in Africa. Your experienced guide will tailor each day’s activities to maximize game-viewing opportunities based on wildlife movements and seasonal conditions.
The Serengeti is also rich in smaller mammals, including rock hyraxes, bat-eared foxes, mongooses, honey badgers, jackals, monkeys, baboons, and African hares. Bird enthusiasts will be equally rewarded, with nearly 500 recorded bird species ranging from majestic raptors and vultures to colorful bee-eaters, kingfishers, and weavers.
En route to the Serengeti, there is an optional visit to the world-famous Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world. It was here that renowned archaeologists Louis Leakey and Mary Leakey made groundbreaking discoveries that contributed significantly to our understanding of human evolution. Following a brief lecture on the archaeology and geology of the gorge, you will have the opportunity to explore the small museum and learn more about these remarkable findings.
Throughout your stay, enjoy extensive game drives across diverse habitats, picnic lunches in the wilderness, and spectacular African sunsets before returning to your lodge or tented camp each evening. These two days provide ample time to experience the extraordinary wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and timeless beauty that have made the Serengeti one of the world's most celebrated safari destinations.
Today you will wake up very early to do an early morning safari before breakfast, to spot the animals when they are more active and also to have a fantastic sunrise in front of you. The sunrise in the African Savannah is one of the most beautiful experiences one can have. After the game drive, return to the camp for brunch. In the afternoon, transfer to Ngorongoro, the 8th natural wonder of the world. With walls 2,000 ft high and a crater floor that spreads for 102 sq. miles, the crater is a virtual Noahs Ark, inhabited by almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa including the rare black rhino. In fact, the crater has the greatest concentration of wildlife on the planet. It contains a river, several swamps, a soda lake that, from the top, looks like steam, full of flamingoes, forest and open plains. The large bull elephants that reside here have an extremely large tusk, due to the rich mineral content of the volcanic soil and its grasses. They are the most incredible elephants you'll ever see in your life.
We will start the day very early and descend into the crater floor for an incredible morning of wildlife in one of the most stunning places on Earth. After the game drive, there will be time for a picnic lunch near the beautiful hippo Lake. After lunch, we will have time for a short game drive and then ascend the crater and exit Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards Arusha. We expect to be back in Arusha around 5 pm although we are flexible in case there is a flight to catch or another situation.
